• Cape Mabou: You can drive about a third of the way up the mountain with two wheel drive.
The remainder requires 4-wheel or 4 feet.
  • Cape Mabou: Are we there yet? [Not even close :-)]
  • Cape Mabou: About 30 minutes later, the view looks down on Strathlorne Valley.
  • Cape Mabou: The view a little farther up.
  • Cape Mabou: A misty view of the western side of Lake Ainslie.
Lake Ainslie is the largest fresh water lake in Maritime Canada.
  • Cape Mabou: The summit is not far off now.
  • Cape Mabou: Another 100 yards...
  • Cape Mabou: This location is very close to the top property marker.
  • Cape Mabou: Level ground - the summit - between 10 and 15 acres at the top looking North were cut at least 15 years ago.
It was near this spot that evidence of bear presence was discovered. Several large tree stumps had been torn apart by a bear looking for grubs.
  • Cape Mabou: From the site of a former homestead, the view Eastwards looks out on Lake Ainslie valley.
The soil here is particularly suitable for growing several marketable tree and berry crops.
  • Cape Mabou: Maple and Birch dominate this mature forest bench.
  • Cape Mabou: This spot is closer to the steep, but forested, drop-off towards the valley.
  • Cape Mabou: One of numerous old-growth hardwoods.
There is no record of cutting in this area of the property all the way back to WW II. Prior to WW II, no records were kept.
  • Cape Mabou: Another ancient Maple and not so ancient owner to give size perspective.
  • Cape Mabou: The hardwood forest bench provides an area of considerable proportions which is level and close to magnificent views.
  • Cape Mabou: A huge and solitary fir amongst the hardwoods.
  • Cape Mabou: The steep edge of the bench falls rapidly downwards but the tree cover protects against erosion.
  • Cape Mabou: Now on the way back down, a quiet glade ...
In the foreground, not visible in the photo, were the feathers of a spruce grouse and evidence of the predator - coyote scat.
  • Cape Mabou: Departing the high ground of the property, the road begins to head down.
  • Cape Mabou: A mist shrouded view of Lake Ainslie before going 'round the bend.
We'll be back on a clear day to photograph the ocean over the top of the town of Inverness.
  • Cape Mabou: Ben was happier on the way down and seemed to know the car was just around this last curve in the road.
