Overview:

This land features a combination of dramatically rising slopes from which, at various levels, are beautiful views of the Bras d'Or Lakes. At the top, the distant eastern side of the Bras d'Or is visible on a clear day. On the level, and partly up the hillside, is a lovely brook, while there are flat lands at the base of the hillside. There is power and telephone. There is also a gravel road up the slopes and the secondary growth of mainly hardwood bush suggest how regrowth will cover the landscape where wanted. Significant areas of mature forest remain. A remarkably large and private parcel - close to Whycocomagh and not far from Port Hawkesbury.

Comments:

Approximately 35 - 40% of the land has been clear cut, some as recently as four years ago. However, regrowth of the hardwoods that were there originally is occurring and can be encouraged by judicious forestry management. The balance of the property is a mixture of mature and younger growth; mainly hardwoods and some softwoods.

Evidence of the presence of an old mill on the brook is still apparent amongst the rocks and logs of what used to be the dam of the water-powered mill. Two of the mill stones now occupy the front of the nearby Blues Mills Volunteer Fire Station.

Upstream the brook winds up a steepening valley, crosses to the neighboring property and then turns back onto this property. Part of the Southeastern border of this property is adjacent to DNR land. The property is bisected by the Trans Canada Highway with approximately half the land (200 acres) on the North side of the road and the other 200 acres on the South side. The Northern acres have the amazing Bras d'Or view while the Southern acres are mostly covered by mature forest.
