| Overview: |
This is very special land. Unusually large at 35 acres, it has over 5000 feet of waterfront - most of it lovely. More than a generation of forest management techniques have produced a beautiful forest of mainly large and stately hardwoods, including maples and birches. An old and very serviceable rail roadbed (no rails or ties) stretches along the long border. The land is almost all dry and rises from the lakefront to an accessible central ridge with lovely views of the coves and lake. 20 minutes from Sydney, 10 minutes from the new Nick Faldo golf courses, it is well located. The lake is 5 miles long, and empties into the ocean by way of a channel which brings tide water into the lake on rising tides. Nearby is an entrance to the extensive, protected Mira River waterway. Loons and other water birds abound along the shore, with deer, foxes, rabbits and grouse amongst the forest glens. The property could be a totally private retreat for a family or an ideal opportunity for a developer.
A new road with right of way to the property and an entry gate have been added to the property as of July of 2009.

| Comments: |
The location alone makes this property desireable. It is roughly halfway between Sydney and Louisbourg, 15 - 20 minutes from each. Sydney on the one hand offers the proximity of amenities and shopping while Louisbourg offers recreation by virtue of ocean water and beach activities, the Fort, restaurants and the new Nick Faldo golf development, the latter being just a 10 minute drive away from the property.
Catalone Lake
The lake is a semi saline lake with a different mix than the Bras d'Or, resulting in a quite different ecological environment. A smaller boat - out-board variety - can go right out of the lake into the ocean, turn, and go right up the Mira River. The length of the lake makes it very approachable for sea planes, while the various coves around this property invite a variety of possible anchorages and even sea plane protected docking potential. |

City of Sydney web site with historical and present day info. Very heavy on business promotion and capturing the tourist dollar, but it's a start on learning about the city - especially what services and purchases are available. This link takes you to the map page where you can focus in on various sections of Sydney. Maps are annotated with items like hospitals. The maps are not very easy to read as the image quality is low, but the overall picture of how Sydney is laid out and what is there is worth the look.
