Overview:

Arresting images capture the senses the moment one gets up this property just a little way above the road. The large acreage climbs slowly at first then passes a majestic Horse Chestnut tree near an old but serviceable barn and some flowering lilacs, taking on a slightly steeper slope amongst the apples, firs and hardwoods. Looking over one's shoulder down the hill provides all the rationale necessary for falling in love with land, lake and tranquility. Extending 180 degrees east and west, the expanse of Lake Ainslie becomes more apparent as one walks farther up the old road towards the top, each few yards stopping to savor the widening vistas and total solitude. While the road needs considerable attention and trees need pruned, the real value probably lies here near the top of the hill. Though needing review as to condition, there are apparently 3 wells and a septic system still extant on the land. Power and phone lines readily available.

Comments:

There are apple trees on the property plus wild raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries and and other natural bounty. Hunting may be possible on the land, especially for partridge (grouse), rabbit and deer.

The closest town is Whycocomagh, about a 10 minute drive on a gravel road which is maintained year-round by the county.

Whycocomagh is a full-service community with a range of shopping outlets from a hardware store to a recently expanded grocery co-op. You can rent DVD's, order a take-out pizza, fill your prescription, buy aboriginal goods, have a choice of church memberships but still enjoy the sleepy friendliness of a village atmosphere with between 500 - 600 residents in the area Postal Canada views as comprising "Whycocomagh".

The beauty of Whycocomagh was noted by Alexander Graham Bell, who is known to have stated that "Whycocomagh is the Rio de Janeiro of North America" due to the picturesque island off its shores.

Within the last several years, the Keltic Quay was constructed on the shoreline along the main part of the village. Opened initially for the 2005 season, it is an up-scale tourist and corporate retreat destination with nice accommodations built right on the lake shore. Over time, this development should be a positive for the local economy. (SEE PHOTO)

Directions:

From Whycocomagh take 352 to W. Lake Ainslie Road and look for sign.
