Overview:

This appealing seaside residence was remodeled by a chef and a shipwright. They created a very comfortable and spacious living area. There is a professional style kitchen laid out for a maximum view over the harbour, and plenty of work space. The front rooms are tastefully decorated which the high ceilings enhance, giving the rooms a feeling of an earlier age and decorum. The upstairs has not been completely redone, but would not take much to finish. The fenced-in and hedged back yard overlooks the harbour and offers space for the gardener.

In addition to being a good choice for a year-round residence, this home offers the seasonal owner some distinct advantages. The house is smack on the water with a panoramic ocean view, visible sunsets to the Southwest, compact lot requiring little upkeep, neighbors' proximity for the unoccupied months, low traffic street with high visibility, nearby amenities in Arichat and a marvelous home base designed for entertaining - a great party place.

Like many larger homes in Cape Breton, the possibility of operating a B&B exists but the new owner will probably want to keep this as a private getaway.

Comments:

The extended kitchen area forms the core of this home. It is so pleasant with its bank of picture windows overlooking the Atlantic, cork flooring, built in bar, side port hole window and an elevated deck just outside a sliding glass door that it is where you most want to be. It is open to the chef's kitchen ("ell" shaped area) and adjacent to a half bath, the master ensuite bedroom and the computer/laundry room.

While it is tempting to spend all one's time in the extended kitchen area, that would be a shame as the rest of the ground floor of this home is equally charming and comfortable. The large joint living room - library (see photo 1, see photo 2) is beautifully detailed with high knotty pine T & G ceiling, contrasting crown molding, large windows, 2 sets of French doors, hardwood flooring, antique ceiling light fixture and unusual built in bookshelves and cabinets.

The balance of the first floor is devoted to a large enclosed porch at the front of the house, a foyer adjacent to the driveway that is set back from the road, a formal foyer area around the bottom of the stairway leading to the second floor and a beautiful formal (casual elegance) dining room off the kitchen. The ground floor plan is very well laid out with the ensuite master bedroom (including whirlpool) right next to the laundry/computer room (ocean view) and separate from the other 4 bedrooms and bath on the upper floor.
