• property is located at the end of a road so there is no through traffic
• property has two waterfronts; one on the bay and one at the back on the open ocean
• though the land is mostly cleared, there is about a third of an acre of forest at the back of the property plus various stands of trees throughout
• wild roses, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, strawberries and even a few cranberries can be harvested in season on the back land
• wildlife is plentiful and hunting is possible nearby
• there is a walking trail that extends into the adjacent provincial forest known locally as Moquehead Trail
• abutting provincial land is approximately 80 acres of woods with a pond and substantial ocean shoreline - nice privacy for this property plus access to a walking trail
• a promontory at the shoreline is held in the Queen's name and is notable as the location of an old lighthouse
• commercial fishing dominates the local economy and the fleet brings in lobster, crab, herring, haddock and more
• the village has a fishermen's museum, a restaurant (operates year round but on a reduced basis in winter), a boardwalk, a public wharf, a church and an extensive undeveloped sandy beach (called Main a Dieu beach on the maps)
• in season, the town features a number of events for both locals and tourists, including picnic day on Scatari Island (right off the coast at Main a Dieu), a boat racing day for large fishing boats and a blessing of the fleet celebration day
• in season, the wharf at Main a Dieu is widely known as the place to go to pick up fresh seafood - lobsters, crab, catch of the day
• there are a few authors and artists who live in the area and appreciate peaceful village life surrounded by unspoiled nature

• shopping and amenities are approximately 35 minutes away in Sydney or 10 minutes away in Louisbourg

The Coastal Discovery Centre web site

The Coastal Discovery Centre is a community, social and enterprise centre housed in the former elementary school in Main-à-Dieu.

Sydney Web Site (map page)

City of Sydney web site with historical and present day info. Very heavy on business promotion and capturing the tourist dollar, but it's a start on learning about the city - especially what services and purchases are available. This link takes you to the map page where you can focus in on various sections of Sydney. Maps are annotated with items like hospitals. The maps are not very easy to read as the image quality is low, but the overall picture of how Sydney is laid out and what is there is worth the look.

The Louisbourg Playhouse

Based on London’s 1599 Globe Theatre, the open-air playhouse was constructed at the Fortress of Louisbourg by Walt Disney Studios for the motion picture Squanto: A Warrior's Tale. After filming wrapped up, the structure was donated to Louisbourg and relocated to our site just off the main street of the Town.
