Overview:

One hundred acres of rolling farmland and some forest, situated on the Bras d'Or roughly opposite Whycocomagh and Aberdeen, with 600 feet of Lake frontage and power to the water's edge. An old, perhaps 150 years, farm house still stands and arguably might be refurbished. Professional opinions required. Part of the over-all 300 acres, this parcel has forest a couple of hundred yards up from the lake and more forest above the road - there being perhaps as much as 50+ acres of mixed trees, and about 45+ of meadows. The property is partially fenced and could provide an idyllic location for a home and hobby farm, with swimmable waterfrontage on the Lake, while the rear approximately 2/3 of the property above the road provides beautiful views and possibly additional housing. A foreign company owns what are said to be the Gypsum rights UNDER this property. We have a letter from the staff geologist of the DNR which states no such gypsum exists beneath this property.

Comments:
  • this farm has been run on an organic basis with one exception: some fertilizer has been used on some of the grass land
  • location is 15 minutes from Whycocomagh (groceries, pharmacy, etc.)
  • location is 50 minutes from Port Hawkesbury (closest major shopping)
  • location is 20 minutes from Baddeck
  • location is 60 from Sydney
  • location is 3 hours and 45 minutes from Halifax
  • the shore of the Bras d'Or is easily accessed; sunsets are over the water
  • there is extensive fencing on the property

AREA WILDLIFE OFTEN OR SOMETIMES SEEN: Eagles (as many as seventeen have been seen on the farm at one time!), owls (various species) swallows, grouse, woodpeckers, many other birds and rabbits.

NOTE: This farm, while currently a beef cattle operation, lends itself to other uses, such as the production of hay or sheep (fields are mostly well drained with few wet areas). It would also be an excellent equestrian operation given the large fenced-in areas of grassland.
