Overview:

This 300 acre beef cattle farm has three separate 100 acre parts (see N.S. Provincial Registry Map). The central block of 100 acres includes the refurbished farm house and barns. The property has over 1500 feet of waterfront on the Bras d'Or and combines quiet seclusion with beauty and well managed grass meadows. Power is supplied all the way to the water's edge along the boundary between two parcels, providing the opportunity for a boat house or cottage on the shore. An additional old farm house is located on an adjoining parcel.

Comments:
  • this farm has been run on an organic basis with one exception: some fertilizer has been used on some of the grass land
  • both barns have electricity and are "pole" barns
  • the garage, attached to one of the barns, also has electricity
  • location is 15 minutes from Whycocomagh (groceries, pharmacy, etc.)
  • location is 50 minutes from Port Hawkesbury (closest major shopping)
  • location is 20 minutes from Baddeck
  • location is 60 from Sydney
  • location is 3 hours and 45 minutes from Halifax
  • there is a large potato garden below the house
  • the shore of the Bras d'Or is easily accessed; sunsets are over the water
  • there is extensive fencing on the property
  • the large animal barn has 60 free stalls

GARDENS, TREES & WILD FRUIT:

The current owners easily grow enough produce to meet the family's needs throughout the year. There is a very large successful potato garden on the slope below the house next to the stream. In addition, next to the house is a personal use organic vegetable and fruit garden with: carrots, turnips, peas, beans, tomatoes, cucumbers, beets, zucchini, broccoli, cauliflower, red and white cabbage, leeks, spinach, lettuce, asparagus, herbs (oregano, basil, chives, lemon balm, sage, rosemary, parsley), strawberries, black and white currants and more. Blueberries, raspberries and blackberries grow wild on the farm. Two apple trees and one pear tree provide fruit a few steps from the residence.

AREA WILDLIFE OFTEN OR SOMETIMES SEEN: Eagles (as many as seventeen have been seen on the farm at one time!), owls (various species) swallows, grouse, woodpeckers, many other birds and rabbits.

MORE INFORMATION :

The amount of fenced meadowland is at least 200 acres. One of the side parcels has an existing vacant farm house which would require substantial remedial work to make livable and a small cottage on the shore of the Bras d'Or which is in good condition and does have power. The land on all three parcels slopes gently to the Bras d'Or shoreline allowing easy access.

FARM EQUIPMENT INCLUDED IN SALE: Certain farm equipment is included with this price - a list will be provided upon request. Certain additional equipment may be available for purchase.

NOTE: This farm, while currently a beef cattle operation, lends itself to other uses, such as the production of hay or sheep (fields are mostly well drained with few wet areas). It would also be an excellent equestrian operation given the large fenced-in areas of grassland, and large capacity barns.
