Overview:

Located roughly at the halfway point in the Cabot Trail, this mansion in the Highland foothills above Pleasant Bay Harbour would make an outstanding small, upscale hotel or a B&B of distinction as well as an unusual year round residence.

Pleasant Bay is renowned for the beauty of its coastline with the Highlands of the National Park rising just inland to provide an awesome backdrop for the small fishing village clustered around the harbour.

The home's retro-Victorian design and decor belies its thoroughly modern comforts such as geothermal heating and central air conditioning, run on a low electrical consumption basis. The interior and exterior of the house show an intense attention to detail, and one cannot help but admire the effort and expense that went into its construction so far from a population center. From the basement pool table and special play area, with its refined bar and sitting area, through the ground floor lovely foyer and on up to the second floor, with its delightfully comfortable bed rooms, the house is quintessentially designed and built for comfort.

Perched on a hill above the village and near the harbour, the property looks out on mountain vistas in every direction -  but tucked into the hillside, it is private. The harbour, a quaint but busy whale-watching destination for tourists (new interpretive centre and cruises), is a two minute ride or ten minute walk away - down the paved driveway, across the Cabot Trail and over a short paved road. Commercial fishing boats and pleasure craft are both moored at the harbour. A general store and a cafe are within easy walking distance from the property.

Comments:

This is not a property for most people, given its northern location and relative isolation. But the person who finds these very characteristics appealing will also find excellent value here. Its attraction has to be measured in the significant price discount from its original cost, which has been dictated by it's location and the reality of its unique qualities. This represents a very compelling reason to consider the property - particularly for the author or artist wanting a hide-away amongst the Highlands and the opportunity to live luxuriously.

NOTE: Brand new furnace components (electrical & pump @ $3,000) installed April 2008 - Geotherm Water Furnace.

Directions:

Take the Cabot Trail to Pleasant Bay - property is located opposite the paved side road to the harbour.
